Emo Room
October 17th 2008 by nuk in No sugarYour bedroom is your own personal haven, so it should reflect your personality and also be a nice, comfortable place for you to spend time in. If you are interested in the emo scene, you will most likely want your room to reflect this, so here is a quick guide to creating that perfect emo room.
1. Colour Scheme - you may think straight away about painting your room black, as this is a typically emo related colour, but black can make a room feel very small and gloomy, and it is much more imaginative to mix it with some contrasting colours, to make a more original, personal statement. You could paint one wall black, and then liven it up with a funky colour on the other walls, or you could use black as a border and paint your own creative mural on the main walls. Don’t forget that dark colours are difficult to cover up if you don’t like them, or go wrong at any stage.
2 Accessories - Try and contrast the colour of the furniture and accessories in the room, especially if the walls are very dark, and make an area of special interest, such as the bed with some funky bed covers, or a wall of photos of your friends to give the room a focal point. The emo scene is very music orientated, so you also might want to decorate the walls with posters and artwork from your favourite bands, or even better you could put up some of your own artwork or poetry if you are a creative person. Put your coolest belongings on display as well, things like figurines, movie memorabilia, concert programs and books, and use some nice shelving or corner units to keep it all tidy. If you have a big room you could put some big comfy cushions and rugs down so that you and your friends can relax on the floor whilst listening to music and chatting. Red and black checks are popular emo colour scheme for curtain, rugs and bedspreads, as well as fabrics in neon and electric shades.
3.Mirror and Vanity unit - getting that perfect emo style requires some time and dedication, so make sure you have a comfy place to do your hair and make up, (and store all your styling gear), and also a full length mirror so you can check out your luscious appearance from every angle! You might always want to make sure you have adequate storage space for all your clothes, so you can keep them nice and tidy and ready to wear at all times.
Before you start redecorating your room make sure you think carefully about the design, as you may not have the time or money to change it again for the near future. You will need to think of something that suits your personality and preferences now, but also something that you will continue to like and enjoy well into the years to come.
